Singapore, July 29, 2024 – Singapore’s Changi Airportexperienced a robust surge in passenger and cargo traffic during the second quarter of 2024, underscoring a strong recovery in global travel and logistics.
From April to June 2024, Changi Airport managed 16.5 million passenger movements, marking a 13.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This volume represents 98.2% of pre-COVID passenger traffic levels from Q2 2019. Aircraft movements also saw a notable rise, with a total of 89,300 landings and take-offs, up 9.7% year-on-year, reaching 94.5% of pre-pandemic figures.
The airport’s top five markets for passenger traffic were Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Australia, and India. China led with the most significant growth, witnessing a doubling of traffic compared to the previous year and surpassing pre-COVID numbers. North Asia emerged as the fastest-growing region, with a year-on-year increase of 40.8%, exceeding pre-pandemic traffic levels.

In terms of airfreight, Changi Airport handled 486,000 tonnes of cargo in Q2 2024, an impressive 16% rise from the previous year. All cargo segments—exports, imports, and transshipments—showed growth, particularly driven by strong cargo flows between Singapore and China, as well as the United States. The top air cargo markets for the period were Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, and the United States.

Travelers now have access to more destinations, including Broome, Brussels, Quanzhou, and Vancouver, while also benefiting from expanded options to popular destinations like Tokyo and London. Our goal is to achieve full travel recovery by year-end, in collaboration with our airline partners.”
As of July 1, Changi Airport hosts 94 airlines operating over 6,900 weekly scheduled flights, connecting Singapore to 158 cities across 50 countries and territories globally.
