Singapore’s population hits record 6.04 million in June 2024, boosted mainly by foreign workers
Singapore’s population has surpassed six million for the first time, reaching 6.04 million as of June this year, marking a 2% increase from the previous year.
This growth is primarily driven by a rise in the non-resident population, which now stands at approximately 1.86 million, including foreign workers, migrant domestic workers, and international students. The non-resident population increased by about 5%, with work permit holders making up the largest segment.

The National Population and Talent Division (NPTD) noted that this diverse group supports Singapore’s labor needs, particularly in sectors recovering from COVID-19 disruptions.
Meanwhile, resident employment continues to grow in higher-paying sectors like finance and professional services.
