Meta launches AI accelerator programme in Singapore
Meta has announced the launch of a Singapore-focused AI incubator programme aimed at supporting 100 enterprises to advance their understanding of generative AI (GenAI) and Llama, Meta’s open-source AI model. Announced by Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, the programme will help businesses integrate Llama into their products. Initially, 20 participants will receive guidance from technical and business experts to develop, refine, and launch Llama-powered solutions. The initiative, supported by Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), aligns with Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0, which promotes the development and adoption of AI by businesses and startups.
Philip Gomez, executive director of DISG, emphasized the programme’s role in fostering innovation and helping businesses unlock opportunities through AI, in line with Singapore’s strategy to remain a regional AI hub.

This initiative follows Meta’s global AI efforts, including its Llama Impact Innovation Awards, which recognized startups like AiSee from the National University of Singapore for their affordable wearable assistive gadget that helps visually impaired individuals ‘see’ using AI.
In addition, Meta introduced a new AI-powered video generator called Movie Gen, capable of creating short videos with audio from text prompts and photos. Movie Gen can also edit videos and transform personal images into unique video content. Meta claims that Movie Gen outperforms similar models in terms of video generation, personalization, editing, and audio production.

While Movie Gen isn’t publicly accessible yet, Meta sees it as a breakthrough in AI video technology, allowing users to bring creative visions to life. However, concerns around AI video generators persist, especially about potential misuse and ownership issues, highlighted by the broader anxiety in creative industries over AI’s impact on jobs, particularly during the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023.
