Singapore Review Urges Push to Become Global AI Hub Amid Economic Shifts

A Singapore government-led economic review has recommended that the country move decisively to position itself as a global hub for artificial intelligence while accelerating AI adoption across the economy. The Economic Strategy Review, released after extensive consultations with businesses, workers and industry groups, said such steps are needed to sustain growth and create quality jobs amid rising global uncertainty.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said rapid technological change, climate pressures and an ageing population mean growth can no longer be relied upon to automatically generate employment. The review outlined seven key recommendations, including transforming advanced manufacturing, pursuing new growth areas such as quantum and decarbonisation technologies, and strengthening global connectivity.

It also called for reforms to skills and training systems to make lifelong learning more practical, while encouraging wider AI adoption, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises. The government is expected to respond in the coming months, with the final report due in mid-2026.
