Singapore has rolled out a refreshed Retail Industry Digital Plan (IDP) aimed at accelerating digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among small and medium-sized retailers. The updated roadmap, led by Enterprise Singapore and IMDA, is expected to support over 2,000 SMEs in strengthening competitiveness and resilience.
Singapore Pushes AI Adoption
The revised plan introduces key structural changes, including organising digital solutions by business functions such as front-of-house, back-end operations, and corporate processes. This approach helps retailers identify operational gaps more effectively while integrating AI tools like chatbots, demand forecasting, and marketing automation.
Authorities say the move comes as retailers face rising costs, manpower shortages, and increasing global e-commerce competition. While many SMEs have adopted basic digital tools, uptake of advanced technologies remains limited, highlighting the need for stronger AI integration and workforce upskilling.
Updated roadmap aims to help SMEs stay competitive through AI and digital tools.
