SML’s RFID Innovation Advances Sustainable Supply Chains

HONG KONG – SML Group has reinforced its role as a sustainability leader in global retail supply chains with the release of its ESG Report 2025, themed “Sustainability in Focus.” The report highlights major progress in emissions reduction, circular economy innovation, responsible sourcing, and workforce development, underscoring the company’s commitment to transparency and resilience.

SML achieved a 33.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 32.6% reduction in Scope 3 emissions compared to its 2021 baseline, bringing the company 80% closer to its 2030 climate target. Its EcoVadis score improved to 72/100, earning a Silver Medal and placing SML in the 85th percentile globally. CEO Ignatius K.C. Lau emphasized that “pace of delivery” matters as much as targets, noting brand partners increasingly demand sustainability as a core business requirement.

RFID Innovation

Operational achievements included diverting 90.7% of waste from landfill and aligning 83.7% of suppliers with environmental and social procurement policies. Workforce development also featured prominently, with over 33,000 training hours delivered globally and a recordable incident rate of 0.27, well below industry averages.

Vice President Nanna Ingemann Dalsgaard stressed that sustainability is about transparency and accountability, not just emissions. SML continues to invest in digital innovation, converting production lines to digital printing to reduce waste and plastic impact. Its award-winning InfuseRFID technology, which won the 2026 SEAL Business Sustainability Award, embeds washable RFID tags into garments, enabling lifecycle tracking and efficient inventory management.
