Safran.AI, the artificial intelligence unit of Safran, plans to establish its first international subsidiary in Singapore following a Memorandum of Understanding between Safran and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the company announced on Oct 29.
The MoU aims to strengthen Singapore’s role as a strategic hub for Safran in Southeast Asia and to lay the groundwork for long-term cooperation, according to the release. The creation of Safran.AI Singapore is described as the first concrete outcome of the partnership, with further major initiatives expected in the coming years.
AI Centre of Excellence
The new subsidiary will develop AI solutions for industry through a Centre of Excellence. Its initial focus will be automating digital inspection in support of Singapore’s MRO 4.0 ambitions, for Safran as well as its partners and customers.
Safran.AI Singapore will also carry out research and innovation, tapping Singapore’s talent pool and academic ecosystem, and will serve Safran.AI’s customers across ASEAN, the company said.
“Safran.AI Singapore marks a new step in our strategy,” said Sébastien Fabre, chief executive of Safran.AI.
Hiring from early 2027
Recruitment will begin in the first quarter of 2027, with roles including data scientists and AI engineers. The unit is expected to grow to about 50 employees over the next five years. The release did not disclose an investment amount.
Safran.AI, previously known as Preligens, has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense since September 2024.
Existing Singapore footprint
Safran has been present in Singapore for more than 45 years and employs about 900 people across five production, engineering and maintenance sites, according to the release. The group describes Singapore as a key hub for its Southeast Asia activities, particularly MRO and customer support.
Most recently, Safran expanded the industrial capabilities of its Safran Landing Systems MRO site.
Philippe Errera, Safran’s executive vice-president for international development and government affairs, said Singapore has created “a particularly attractive environment” for the development of the group’s activities.
